Jeff Bezos Net Worth More Than Bill Gates Ever Was
Jeff Bezos Net Worth More Than Bill Gates Ever Was Jeff Bezosâs net worth reached $105.1 billion Monday on the Bloomberg Billionaires Index as Amazon.com Inc. shares added to a 12-month surge thatâs lifted the online shopping giantâs market value by almost 57%. Amazon shares have risen 6.6% this year, with a report showing the Seattle-based company captured 89% of online spending among dominant holiday retailers in the five-week period beginning the day after Thanksgiving in the U.S. The latest jump has pushed Bezosâs fortune definitively above the high reached by Microsoft Corp.âs Bill Gates in 1999. The Amazon founder passed Gates in October with a net worth of $93.8 billion and his fortune crossed $100 billion for the first time a month later when the holiday shopping season kicked off on Black Friday. Gates, 62, would have a net worth of more than $150 billion if heâd held onto assets that heâs given away, largely to the Bill Melinda Gates Foundation. He has given away almost 700 million Microsoft shares and $2.9 billion of cash and other assets since 1996, according to an analysis of his publicly disclosed giving. Bezos also controls closely held space exploration business Blue Origin and the Washington Post.

You Only Have 3 Seconds To Get The Job Offer Yikes! - Work It Daily
You Only Have 3 Seconds To Get The Job Offer Yikes! - Work It Daily âI know in three seconds who will get the job.â Thatâs what a friend once told me. He explained when candidates are waiting in Reception, all he has to do is walk through, take a quick glance at them, and he knows who will get the job offer or, at least, who will not. Three seconds is very good. Of course, as a recruiter, I pride myself on being able to know if a person has what it takes to get an interview after spending five seconds on their cover letter and maybe eight on their resume. The funny thing is, most job seekers donât believe any of this. Thatâs why they prepare rambling cover letters and resumes awash with self-praise. Of course, they are wrong. But letâs forget about job seekers for a moment. How about funding seekers? Entrepreneurs looking for backers. In this monthâs issue of Inc. magazine, David Tish of TechStars is quoted as saying, âItâs pretty clear in 20 seconds whether the person [the funding seeker] has it in them or not. You donât need to know that much.â âYou donât need to know that much.â Remember that line, job seekers. And take a minute (it wonât take more than that!) to read, â6 Things Job Recruiters Pay Attention to, as Determined By Science.â Let me save you the time: your name; current title/company; previous title/company; current position start and end dates; previous position start and end dates; and education. If you have been reading my articles you know I am contrarian. I look at your location, hopefully a section listing selected accomplishments, years of employment and education. If all checks out, I look at skills and experience. Regardless, you get the message: No one cares about an âObjectiveâ or âProfessional Summary.â But hereâs the rub: Resumes are changing. Before you know it everyone will have a multimedia resume like those on Purzue. Why? Letâs get back to Mr. Tisch. One entrepreneur who pitched to him did not do well. But then Tisch received a video from him with animal masks and flames which was a âridiculously over-wrought (but effective) team video.â It made the case the team members âhave a personality.â It clinched the deal. Having a video, albeit probably not an âover-wroughtâ one, may clinch the deal for you too! Just remember: You only have a few seconds to grab the employerâs attention and get the job offer. Donât waste it on nonsense. Related Posts: Your College Degree Doesnât Matter To Employers â" Hereâs Why. J. Lo is the Only Actress Over 45 to Hit This Milestone and It Points to Big Issues in Hollywood
J. Lo is the Only Actress Over 45 to Hit This Milestone and It Points to Big Issues in Hollywood Jennifer Lopez is an icon. But a new study has shed some serious light on the Latinx erasure the actress has overcome to become the star we love today the only actress who is Latinx, over 45 years old and has played a lead role in the belastung decade.A new report by the USC Annenberg Inclusion Initiative, in partnership with National Association of Latino Independent Producers (NALIP) and Wise Entertainment, studied the 1,200 top-grossing box office films between 2007 and 2018. They found that only 4.5% of the characters were Latinx and Latinx leads were even mora sparse.Only 3% of the 1,200 movies featured a Latinx lead and only two Latina lead roles were played by a woman over 45 years old. That woman was Jennifer Lopez, both times.J. Los repeated appearance is in line with other findings of the study. Researchers found that only four actors made up for 16 of the 35 surveyed Latinx l ead roles J. Lo, Cameron Diaz, Eugenio Derbez and Jessica Alba.Even when Latinx roles are incorporated in film, the researchers say they are more likely to be cast in a negative light. Twenty-four percent of Latinx speaking roles portrayed criminals, according to the studys survey of 200 popular films. In 2019, this representation or, more truthfully, lack thereof of the Latinx population is dangerous. As Mauricio Mota, Co-President of Wise Entertainment, said in a press release The erasure of the Latino community in film creates a void that has been allowed to be filled by hateful and violent rhetoric.Thankfully, trailblazers like Jennifer Lopez are sharing their talents with us and telling the stories that need to be told. Just another reason to support her and other Latinx performers at the box office.

3 Reasons Email Recruitment is Not Successful - Spark Hire
3 Reasons Email Recruitment is Not Successful - Spark HireOccasionally I am contacted by anotlageher recruiter or human resource professionalregarding my interest in a new position that they are hiring for. Quite often, their method of contact is only via email, with no follow up phone call. This method of recruitment is not very effective for several reasons.1.Times have changedWhen you are hiring for a position, typically, you want to hire the best candidate in the least amount of time. This means that your recruitment process must be effective and contain a sense of urgency. In todays world, many people will go days or even weeks without checking their email. Instead of email, people now have other forms of contact that they are using such as phone conversation, texting, tweeting, and chatting on social media sites. If you want to quickly know if someone is interested in the opportunity you are recruiting for, you must find a speedy way to reach out to them. Email is not the answer. Rather than only sending an email and waiting for a reply, you should attempt all forms of communication you have on a candidate. A phone call is the best way, because what could be better than actually speaking with the candidate? If you are unsuccessful with a phone call, begin to tackle all other forms of contact you have.2.Spam folderWith the new restrictions and rules that can be set up in email accounts, quite often recruitment emails will go directly into someones spam folder. How many times have you checked your spam folder, only to quickly glance through the long list of junk emails and select Delete All in order to get on with your life? I do this all of the time and it would be quite easy to overlook an email from a recruiter in my spam folder. I am aya many people have deleted these emails without even realizing that it was about a legitimatejob opportunity.3.Lacks personalizationAs recruiters and human resource professionals, we work diligently to perfect our initial ema ils to kompetenz candidates. After all, the email is a sales pitch and we want to make it as attractive as possible, enticing the candidate to reply back or call.It is difficult to personalize an email to a potenzial candidate, when you are attempting to email a large number of people. Quite often, in order to save time and reach out to many people, we will craft a generalized email to send at once to a group of potential candidates. These emails lack personalization. Each person we email has a different situation or different background and these mass emails will completely gloss over this fact. There is nothing wrong with sending mass emails. In fact, I encourage that you do send these out in order to try every method possible to spread the word about the opportunity. However, I also recommend that you follow up these mass emails with a phone call, which can be more personalized. This in turn is more appealing and effective to potential candidates. What are the different recruitment methods you use in order to attract candidates? Please share your tips and experiences in the comments below.Image Jakub Jirsak/BigStock.com

Tips to Compare Software Development Methodologies
Tips to Compare Software Development MethodologiesTips to Compare Software Development MethodologiesReady, set, go Your software engineers rush out of the gate, writing elegant code that compiles perfectly into a killer software product that fits your clients needs. Works every time, right? Well, not always. This kind of unstructured development might work for simple projects. But as the scope of a product expands, so does the need for a process to guide the development efforts.Enter software development methodologies, or frameworks, that define the process your team follows as it attempts to deliver a timely product that satisfies your customers. However, do you know which one to adopt? The yin and yang of software development methodologiesStructured and Agile occupy opposite ends of the spectrum of software development methodologies. Though there are various models, or versions, that reference aspects of these two methods, looking at a comparison of the overarching methods is perhaps the best way to start your quest for a development framework.Structured methodologyThis is the most traditional of the software development methodologies. Under this approach, distinct ls of development are completed by distinct groups in a linear fashion. Each phase must be completed and approved before the next phase can begin. Though the most common use of this method is the Waterfall model, other software development methodologies also use structured techniques. They includeIterative A structured technique whereby developers first create the most basic form of the product, complete testing and then go through constant cycles/iterations to add additional features, testing after each iteration.Spiral A structured, iterative approach that continues to spiral outward (get bigger) while going through four distinct structured phases (determine objectives, risk assessment, develop, then test and plan the next iteration).Rapid Application Development (RAD) A structured approach to crea te user requirements and final design, but one that focuses on prototyping in lieu of functional planning. The constant prototyping allows for trial and error of functional requirements.Agile methodologyIn 2001, a group of programmers decided there was a different way to develop software and published the Agile Manifesto. Agile emphasizes collaborative development by smaller teams comprised of clients, developers and other experts, followed closely by review and adaptation. This develop-review-adapt cycle continues as the teams produce rapid iterations of a product until it is completed. The most recognized use of Agile methodology is the Scrum model, which is commonly referred to as Agile Scrum. However, other software development methodologies also reference the Agile method, including Extreme Programming (XP). When it comes to XP, the name says it all. Projects are completed by taking all Agile practices to the extreme, such as reviewing code on a constant basis through pair progra mming and opting for verbal communication over written documentation at all times.Fixed vs. flexible In its truest form, the structured methodology centers around a master schedule that has hard deadlines for each phase of development (coding, quality assurance, etc.). This framework allows you to give your client a fixed cost and release date. If these are important to your customer, consider going with a structured software development method. On the other hand, if your client is flexible about dates and costs, Agile may be the way to go.Does your client want to be involved? With any of the structured software development methodologies, clients request features, then step back and wait until these features are implemented in the next major release of the product. If the customer suddenly realizes they need a different feature, they have to wait until the next development cycle begins.Though some structured models, like RAD, offer a faster response than the more common Waterfall mod el, Agile offers a completely different way. By being part of the team producing incremental releases, customers can choose features along the way, which can increase their satisfaction with the end product. This way of working may also be best for clients who have a hard time envisioning exactly what they want before development begins.Know thy developersWithin the structured method, developers are assigned discrete tasks based on written requirements generated upstream. The need for daily conversation with other team members is minimized. Is this how your programmers like to work? Or would they be happier bouncing ideas off other software engineers, clients and business experts on a daily basis? Many developers feel empowered by the Agile method because they have more control over the final product. Its not always easy leaving the waterIf you decide to implement one of the software development methodologies weve discussed - and you havent used it before - be aware that youll prob ably hit some bumps. This is because the structured and Agile software development methodologies are completely different ways in which to visualize a project and work on it.Keep in mind that Waterfall isnt the only software development process that uses a structured approach, so you may want to further research some less-common structured models. And if you go decide to go with Agile, be sure to budget some extra time and consider bring on team members who have experience with it.Find out what software developers are paid in your cityGO TO SALARY CALCULATOR

Science Job Titles in Academia, Government, and Industry
Science Job Titles in Academia, Government, and IndustryScience Job Titles in Academia, Government, and IndustryMost jobs in science are found in an academic setting, in government, or in private industry. That general title, however, covers a range of broad categories like chemistry and botany. All of those broad categories include many specializations, each with its own set of technical skills, knowledge, and educational requirements. Thus, this list of science job titles is both long and varied. There also is a wide range in the education requirements. A technician, lab assistant, or field assistant might need to acquire intensive training and certification only in the specialized tasks that the job entails. For many regulatory or industrial jobs, a masters degree is a standard requirement. Professorships require a doctorate in the subject. Academic Jobs Jobs in academia usually involve teaching, but some positions are focused on research projects while, for others, teaching i s the core responsibility. The actual job title seldom reflects the distinction. Titles include professor, assistant professor, adjunct professor, and lecturer. Modifiers like of botany are seldom part of the title but are simply understood from context. Technicians, assistants, field researchers, and interns also belong to academia if they work for professors. Such positions are usually filled by graduate students, who may or may not be paid. Government Jobs Many science jobs in government involve working for regulatory agencies. They include tasks such as testing water samples for pollution levels. Government scientists also conduct surveys of many kinds, like determining how many square miles of a certain forest type exist in a given state. Such positions may be available at both the state and federal levels, and sometimes at the local level. Titles include state ecologist, water resource specialist, and aquatic animal health inspector. Some government agencies, such as the m ilitary or the National Park Service, conduct their own scientific research, although the career tracks for academic and government science jobs are often quite separate. Titles for these positions often include military or civil tafelgeschirr rank. For example, a GPS specialist might also be a G10 National Park Service ranger. Industrial and Non-Profit Jobs Businesses in fields such as pharmaceuticals, engineering, wetland remediation, logging, mining, and fossil fuels employ scientists of various specializations. Non-profit organizations, especially those in the environmental and medical fields, employ scientists as researchers or educators, to help interpret current research, and to draft organizational policy. Miscellaneous Science Jobs Many jobs requiring scientific knowledge do not fit into any of the above categories. These include science teachers, research librarians, science writers and journalists, and science educators. For some scientists, a career path that beg ins in the field winds up in management or administration, or even politics. Thus, there are fully qualified scientists who have job titles such as director of outreach and member services or vice president of alumni relations. This comprehensive list of job titles in the science industry can help you narrow down your career interests. It will certainly give you an appreciation of the great breadth of the field.
